Osteopathy in Phnom Penh

What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a manual approach used in the assessment and management of musculoskeletal disorders. It forms part of a global clinical approach to the patient, taking into account the interactions between different body structures. When used as a complement to the clinical examination, it may contribute, when appropriate, to the management of pain and functional limitations within a structured healthcare framework.

How osteopathy is used in our clinical practice

In our studio, osteopathy is integrated into a global approach to patient care. Manual techniques are selected based on the clinical assessment, the patient’s symptoms, and their functional limitations. They may be used to reduce pain and certain functional limitations within a structured clinical framework, in line with my qualifications and clinical reasoning as a physiotherapist.

Osteopathy within a physiotherapy framework

Physiotherapy is a regulated healthcare profession that is fully integrated into medical systems worldwide. It is based on clinical assessment, diagnosis, and the management of musculoskeletal conditions using evidence-informed approaches. This medical integration is the foundation of my practice and guides every clinical decision, from the evaluation of symptoms to the choice of treatment strategies.

Within this framework, osteopathy is used as an additional manual approach for patients who are familiar with hands-on care and feel comfortable with this type of treatment. Depending on the individual situation, sessions may include joint-specific physiotherapy techniques, mobilisations, or broader manual interventions. The focus always remains on providing precise, appropriate care that aligns with the patient’s needs, expectations, and clinical presentation.

What is my osteopathic approach?

My osteopathic training was completed at the British School of Osteopathy, now known as the University College of Osteopathy, the oldest osteopathy school in Europe. This training was completed at Master of Science level, with a strong emphasis on clinical reasoning, research, and musculoskeletal care. The osteopathic approach I offer in Phnom Penh is strictly structural, meaning it focuses on joints, movement, and mechanical factors related to musculoskeletal pain.

This approach does not include visceral or cranial osteopathy, and it is not intended to address systemic or internal medical conditions. I do not provide osteopathic treatment for conditions such as endometriosis, digestive disorders, or reflux, as these fall outside the scope of my practice. Sessions are designed for adolescents and adults with musculoskeletal or movement-related complaints. I do not treat infants or very young children. The aim is to provide clear, appropriate care within well-defined clinical boundaries, so patients know exactly what to expect before booking a session.
